Ouch! Snap!

Whew! Finally.. my 2 weeks rotation in WVMC OR is finished. Though I don’t want to end it, I have to move on to another phase of my pre-professional training.hehehe

I have learned a lot from there… starting from the aides, my 2 CIs, the staff.. and the doctors. It’s only there that I first felt the true essence of being an OR nurse. I love to do things independently you know. I love all the work- from scrubbing to gowning, from sponge and instrument counting to passing of instruments and sutures, from cleansing to packaging. I don’t mind if I get scolded for my simple stupidity (let’s face it..it happens). I accept my fault and I’m willing to learn.

I don’t mind standing and assisting in the operation for 4 hours or more. I don’t care how complicated the operation may be. I even prefer assisting the grossest operation. I love watching the internal organs being explored. I love the smell of the skin being cauterized (it sux if you’re not used to it u know^,*). The blood is not that bad (it’s all in the mind). Plus, you’ll get to see some cute surgeons, anesthesiologists, residents, PGIs, Interns, and RNs of course!!!

There’s this funny experience I had when I assisted in an ORIF of a Mandibular fracture (open reduction internal fixation). *mandible is a bone in your chin*

I passed an instrument to the assisting surgeon and I was too snappy that my surgeon said "Aguy!" LoL. Good thing the instrument that I gave to him wasn’t some heavy retractors like the deaver. Thank God it was only a mosquito!!! Whew! Hahaha>…<

I love the WVSU students- there so easy to get along with, also there CI. I love the goofy moments with Sir A and the some surgeons like DR. P. Throwing jokes (but still maintaining the focus) during operation can really take away the tension esp for students like us. I love the trivia questions the Drs throw to us. It makes my mind work and dig in to my memory for some answers. I love when a DR ask me to get/do somethin for him/her.. I feel like a real circulating nurse.

There was no dull moment at all’_^

Well, except for some factors. You can’t really expect that everyone will play the protagonist. There will always be an antagonist. haha!!!

But hell, I don’t care. The good will always prevail. Bleh!!!

This makes me consider OR as one of my choices for specialization.

Let’s see if my next rotation in the Delivery Room will make me change my mind. Lol.

Till then.

Guten Nach!!!

Sometimes you have to put walls up…

Not to keep people out.

But…

to see who cares enough to break them down!_-

How could you probably be friends with someone…

When everytime you look at that person,

You want to slap his/her face…

And shout,

"Damn it! Stop smiling…

You’re stealing my heart!"
